Stone's Shoes was formed by William J. Stone in 1951. The store was originally formed as the shoe department in the old East Department Store in downtown Asheboro, which later became The Anchor...and later the McCown-Smith Department Store. In 1960, Stone's opened an additional store, which was a family shoe store that carried a complete line of men's, women's and children's shoes and accessories.

In 1969, we also opened a new store in the Northgate Plaza Shopping Center on North Fayetteville Street. This was also another complete family shoe store. This particular store operated until its closing in 1981. The downtown store remained opened until July of 1984. Stone's also opened another new store in the Randolph Mall in November of 1983. This store was there until 1992. The Stone's Shoe store also owned and operated the Tobias Shoe Departments in Asheboro and the Tobias location in Downtown High Point from 1980 until 1990. 

In December of 1992, after closing its store in the Randolph Mall, Stone's Shoes II opened its newest and finest store in the Specialty Shops on 42. This store was opened by the second generation of the Stone's family: Billie Stone Vuncannon. The "II" beside the Stone's Shoes name reflects the 2nd generation of ownership. Other owner's of this location include, Tony R. Vuncannon, Susan A. Vuncannon and Ranette C. Vuncannon.  

We offer women's and men's shoes at this location. Also, Stone's is Randolph County's premiere retailer for the Vera Bradley line of Handbags and Accessories! We offer the largest selection of Vera Bradley products than any other Randolph County retailer!  In 1995, the Stone's Shoes family decided to open up a new store focusing on fine ladies apparrel and accessories, Taylor's.
